The Ossissa community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into disarray when armed assailants suspected to be herdsmen struck, beheading a commercial motorcyclist and five other farmers.
According to reports, the commercial motorcyclist identified as Udoka Ossai (said to be in his 20’s) had gone to drop a passenger at Ossissa Junction along the Ughelli/Asaba Expressway, when he encountered the herdsmen who had ambushed the farmers.
After beheading their victims, the herdsmen immediately fled the area before a gathering army of youths in the community could get at them down for their atrocities.
An eyewitness who did not want to be identified said; “Udoka Ossai and the six farmers were attacked near Ossissa Junction. Udoka was slaughtered on the throat. Before I could draw the attention of villagers to the scene, he was already dead.
“Our youths who mobilised to the bush in search of the killers could not see the herdsmen who had already fled the area. They could not go far for the search because it was already dark. They recovered the corpses and left them at the police station at Ashaka. Over 40 of our people have been killed since last year owing to herdsmen attacks.”
Reports say an angry arm of youths later recovered Ossai’s body, and then marched to the Ashaka Divisional Police Station to dump the corpse at about 8:15pm, while others went in search of the herdsmen.
