Over the weekend, Nigerian and Ghanaian music powerhouses convened at the Accra International Conference Centre for a power-packed Ghana Meets Naija 2017 concert. Performing at the event was Davido, Tiwa Savage, Falz, Shatta Wale, Eno, Manifest, Ko-Jo Cue and a host of others. The undoubted highlight of the event was a explosive Shatta Wale performance which had him make an entrance on a hospital gurney.

MMM GUIDERS HOLD DEMOCRACY DAY PARTY FOR NIGERIA IN ABUJA

MMM-Nigeria, a group for mutual financial aid and donations on Monday organised a green party show in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to celebrate Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

NAN reports that the party, which held at the Millennium Park, was opened to members of the group and non-members alike.

Seyi Bello, the President of Abuja Guiders Forum of the MMM-Nigeria said the gesture was part of solidarity by the group for Nigeria’s 18-years of uninterrupted democracy.

“This party is put together to celebrate our Democracy Day and since Nigeria’s flag is green-white-green, we decided to call it ‘green party’ as a mark of solidarity. We invited everyone to be a part of this event because friendship and unity is what this community of mutual help represents. As a community, we do not only provide help to our members, we also extend that to the larger society as part of our social responsibility,” he said.

Musicians, comedians and other entertainers in the territory performed at the event.

Bello explained that over three million Nigerians were members of the group.

He explained that contrary to some people’s opinion about the scheme, its a community of people providing financial help to each other on the principle of reciprocity and benevolence.

“That is what defines us as a community of people providing financial help to each other on the principle of reciprocity and benevolence. In MMM, there are no lenders and no debtors. One participant asks for help, another one helps.’’

He therefore called on leaders at all levels to deliver basic dividends of democracy to Nigerians, adding that the current recession was affecting ordinary Nigerians.

“As we celebrate democracy, let our leaders remember that we need change in all aspects of our lives,” he said.

Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) is a Ponzi scheme, which was revived early this year after freezing participants’ accounts for a month in December 2016.

Brig-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), said on Monday that the scheme will start posting corps members to farms soon.

Kazaure said this in an interview with newsmen during his official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun.

He said that the move to deploy corps members in  farms  was in line with  the  agricultural development programme of the NYSC.

According to him, the NYSC has concluded preparations to begin the posting  at the conclusion of the three-week orientation exercise.

He said that Bauchi, Oyo, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been earmarked for the pilot phase.

“It should interest you to know that the NYSC will soon begin its agricultural development scheme where corps members will be posted to farms for their primary assignments.

Already the NYSC has acquired active farmlands across the nation’s geopolitical zones with four already fully operational in Kwali, Bauchi, Oyo and Kebbi.

After this orientation programme for the Batch ‘A’ corps members, we will begin posting some of them to these farms as a pilot phase. Though we are starting with four states for now, we will integrate the other states as time goes, the project is ongoing,” Kazaure said.

The NYSC boss had tasked the corps members not to seek white-collar jobs which were non-existent but rather develop their potentials for entrepreneurship excellence.

He said the corps members could begin their journey toward  financial independence by tapping into and maximising the benefits of the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

“The NYSC has provided all the tools and support you need to develop your capacity to the fullest, it now depends on you, there is no short cut to success but by hard work.

Of all the programmes outlined for you during the orientation, there is none more important that you must fully participate in than the SAED programme.

I want you to create your own jobs by being creative and innovative, you must strive to be labour employers rather than labour seekers. Please don’t look for white-collar jobs, your skills and potentials can serve you better in the way of realising your dreams,” he said.

Kazaure said that the SAED programme was made possible by partnership  with public and private sector organisations  to build entrepreneurial capacity.

DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF INEC'S ELECTORAL INSTITUTE,ABUBAKA MOMOH IS DEAD

The Director General of The Electoral Institute of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Professor Abubakah Momoh has died in Abuja. He is expected to be buried today in Auchi, Edo State, according to Islamic injunction.

According to reports, the astute professor of Political Science passed on this morning after a brief illness and as at the time of filing this report, his body was being taken to his home town in Auchi for burial.


Until his appointment, Professor Momoh was the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Lagos State University, LASU. He obtained his Ph.D in Political Theory and started his Lecturing career in 1988. He has served on various Boards and scientific committees including those of the Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, and Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa ,CODESRIA.

He is survived by a wife and a son.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the father of two was put in jail at 7:18am and later released at 10:50am on his own recognizance. He is now facing a charge of driving with a blood alcohol level above Florida's legal limit of .08.

FC BARCELONA OF SPAIN NAMED ERNESTO VALVERDE AS THEIR NEW COACH

Barcelona have confirmed Ernesto Valverde as their new coach following Luis Enrique’s departure. The club took to their twitter handle to confirm the news. According to them, “Ernesto Valverde is the new @FCBarcelona coach. Welcome, Ernesto!#HolaValverde.” Valverde, 53, stepped down from his role in charge of Athletic Bilbao last week having led the Basque club to seventh place in La Liga and Europa League qualification. He has also managed Villarreal, Valencia and Barça’s city rivals Espanyol in a varied coaching career that included two years in Greece with Olympiakos. Valverde also had a two-year spell as a Barcelona player in the late 1980s and will now return to the Camp Nou after a 27-year absence.

Barcelona lifted the Copa del Rey with a 3-1 win against Alaves in Enrique’s final game in charge on Saturday, the ninth trophy of his three-year reign. However, the victory came at the end of a campaign which included disappointment in both La Liga and Europe, with the title going to Barça’s bitter rivals Real Madrid, who are also in the Champions League final on Saturday, aiming to retain the European Cup by beating Juventus.

Enrique had announced in March he would be leaving the club at the end of the season to take a one-year break from management. The Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, said: “Valverde has the ability, the judgment, the knowledge and the experience. He promotes the youth players and he has a Barça way. He is a hard worker and he is a fan of using technology in training and in managing matches. “He was not the only name on the table. From the moment Luis Enrique said he was not going to continue (technical secretary) Robert Fernandez began a search. He spoke to a lot of people and studied the market. Many people took part in this decision and we did look at different names but our conclusion was one name and one coach. We know him, we know what he can do. “Robert explained he was looking for a coach who had the Barcelona profile and knows the style. Ernesto is a very hard worker. PHYNO,PIA MIA,PULSE,THE CONTROVERSIAL SONG AND THE DRAMA

Once again, there is drama in the Nigerian music scene and this time a lot of the players involved are really angry. So here's the gist. The song ‘I’m a fan’ is in the center of an international drama & while music fans are shrugging it off as a publicity stunt, music pundits believe it goes deeper that that.

In 2016 Phyno dropped his second album titled 'Paymaker' and it had a song called 'I'm a fan' featuring Mr Eazi and Decarlo. Then two days ago, American singer and songwriter, Pia Mia, released a version of the same song 'I'm a fan' which featured singer Jeremih.


Her version of the song had striking similarities with one released by Phyno including the production, chorus, and verse. Immediately after her own release, the internet went bunkers. Then Pulseng went on to do a report on the story that partly reads;

'According to verified sources close to Phyno’s camp, the rapper was working on incorporating Island-ready production on his sophomore album to tap into the international market. He was in talks with Remo (the producer), who sent him the song to work with. “The guy sent the song to us, and we wanted to work together, but something happened and we couldn’t use it,” a source told Pulse'.

The Pulseng report continues to say,

'due to issues regarding remuneration, clearances and demands, Phyno and Remo did not work together. But Phyno liked the idea of the sound, so he sought the help of producer Benjamz, who reconstructed the single, and brought on Mr Eazi and Decarlo to collaborate and release the record. Remo, who had totally abandoned the Phyno project, still has his music, and so when Pia Mia tapped him and Jeremih for a new record, they had this one ready-made for her to record and release'.

This report and alleged source from Phyno's camp didn't go down well with the rapper who immediately took has to twitter to call out Pulse and indirectly threaten legal actions.

“@mslegendary cyaah sing da song deh at this show, else mi a go rush har. Nuh kitten or catfish can nuh bloodclaat (Jamaican curse word) bother come because that cyah sing, else she cannot be on no more shows with me,”!

Not to be intimidated, Ishawna responded

“This festive bad. Mi never know me and Killa a guh war dung a Portland next week? Bring it on Rodney! #equalrights,” … which translates to … I’m not afraid of you!
