VIDEO:TRIAN PASSENGER THROW A MAKESHIFT GRADUATION PARTY FOR A STUDENT WHO MISSED HIS GRADUATION CEREMONY BECAUSE HE WAS STUCK ON THE TRAIN

A graduate of nursing from the Hunter College, Brookdale campus, New York, Jerich Marco Alcantara  missed his graduation ceremony after he got stuck on the train. it didn't end all bad as he got a makeshift graduation party aboard the train. The party was thrown by other passengers and some of his friends who were on the same train.
Alcantara told Select All he had opted out of attending the main graduation ceremony at Radio City Music Hall later that same day because students were only allotted two tickets, and he wanted all of his family and friends. Opting out also meant that getting to the commencement was that much more important to him.
“I was on track to be at my commencement at 9:15 a.m., but the delays altogether ended up taking almost three hours,” Alcantara said. “After 45 minutes, I knew I was already late, but I kept hoping that I’d at least make it to walking the stage.” He didn’t make it, but thanks to some friends and strangers on the train that day, he still got to experience a formal graduation. Sort of. A friend presented Alcantara with a “diploma” via a cell phone, while somebody else on the train blasted “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Green Day. Another passenger filmed the makeshift ceremony and posted the video to Facebook.

PETE EDOCHIE'S 70-YEARS OLD BROTHER,OTHERS ARRESTED OVER KILLING IN ANAMBRA LAND DISPUTE

Five persons have been reported killed in a land dispute at Nteje, Oyi local government area of Anambra State.
The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Rowland Odegbo, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka, the state capital on Monday.
Pete Edochie

He said 18 persons had been arrested from the community over the dispute, including a 70-year-old brother of a Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie.
According to PUNCH, Odegbo said he escaped being arrested following Governor Willie Obiano’s intervention.
He decried incessant harassment of his people by the police from outside the state, stating that his community was under police siege.
He said some of the people killed were the morgue, while most youths in the area had fled the town and hidden in forests for fear of being arrested and taken to Abuja by the powers that be.
He gave the list of the persons arrested and being detained in Abuja SARS as Chief Ikechukwu Edochie, Chief Cyril Nwankwo, Mr. Vincent Okongu, Pastor Vin Nnaemeka, Modilim Nwene, Anthony Ewenike, Dominic Oboh, Sunday Mobi, Paul Aghadinuno, the landMonday Nwafor and Nwoye Amamchukwu.
Others were Obelagu Mobi, Koife Chukwuemeka, Ogwugwua Nweke, Fidelis Cordi, Ibe Kenneth, Chijioke Anyanti and Uchenna Oraegbunam.
The monarch said the land dispute was engineered by land speculators who constituted themselves into a cabal and illegally sold communal land for many years.
He said they were not making any returns to the villagers, hence trouble began which led to the death of three persons on 11th of March this year when two factions involved in the sale of the land clashed.
He said when some soldiers intervened in the matter to quell the riot, one of the groups attacked the soldiers, leading to the death of one other person whose body was still in the mortuary.
Calling on Governor Obiano to set up a panel of enquiry to look into the matter, Igwe Odegbo said: “The major problem we have is that one policeman, who was at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Awkuzu and now an assistant commissioner of police in charge of SARS in Abuja, is being used to come into Nteje and arrest people and take them to Abuja without recourse to the Anambra State police command”.
His statement said “There was even a petition that I, the traditional ruler, should be brought to Abuja and they would have carried me if the Anambra State governor had not intervened.
“I was addressing a village meeting when the policemen came and said that I was needed in Abuja. However, following the intervention of the governor, they asked me to come at my own time, but I knew that was a face-saving measure on their part.
“When one person was killed recently, the same Abuja SARS came to Nteje and arrested many people who are yet to be released.
“I don’t know why Abuja SARS should be bypassing Anambra State police command to come and carry people to Abuja. What borders me is that when three people were killed in March, there was a petition to the police, while another group wrote another petition and included me.
“What has been happening here is that petitions have been flying and arrests made indiscriminately. I really don’t understand why our people should be intimidated by a group and trying to rope in the traditional ruler because someone was opposed to my being crowned the Igwe of Nteje.
“Our community needs help because we are under police siege from Abuja. Those arrested were carried in two buses and taken to Abuja on thumped up charges and I would have been among them if I am not the traditional ruler.”

PEASE MASS TRANSIT (PMT) VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PLANT TAKES OFF

The new vehicle assembly plant set up by Peace Mass Transit Ltd, has gone into operation.
The plant, located within the Emene, Industrial Layout Headquarters of the company has rolled out about 100 units of the improved version of the Peace Hiace brand of commuter buses.

PMT injects a minimum of 600 buses into its fleet every year and the new assembly plant is expected to augment the supply need of the company, for a start.
Toyota Hummer buses, Ugama Hiace, and the resilient Peace Hiace are some of the popular brands in the PMT fleet.
The locally assembled Peace Hiace buses have been fitted with improved features for optimum performance, safety and comfort of passengers, including rear AC, speed limiter device, T.V, Electronic Brake Device (EBD), and Automatic Brake System (ABS).
PMT Director of Operations, Dubem Ugwu, explained that, for now the transport company would buy up the entire units assembled in its local assembly plant and that the internal (PMT) demand would still outstrip the supply.
This is the first such plant by a transport company in Nigeria.
PMT injects at least 600 vehicles into its fleet every year, in a robust, unique fleet renewal programme which has seen it grow into the biggest shuttle bus company in Nigeria in the 20 years of its existence.
There are at least 2,000 PMT mini buses on Nigeria roads daily, from an active fleet of at least 4,000 buses.
29 of the newly assembled vehicles were exhibited before Journalists on thursday at an official ceremony to launch the maiden products of the assembly plant.
PMT Executive Director in charge of operation, Mr. Timothy Chidubem Ugwu, who took the visiting journalist on a guided tour of the factory, announced that the new buses would be deployed into operation shortly.
He said the buses had been “tried and tested” through rigorous quality and safety control mechanisms, and expressed the confidence that the performance would meet, and possibly surpass consumers’ expectations.

I ONLY HANDLED OKOROCHA'S GUEST AND I WAS AT EVERY MEETING & CONVENTION WITH HIM, I DIDN'T DATE HIM----SHIRLEY IGWE

Nollywood actress, Shirley Igwe has denied ever dating Imo State Governor, when she was appointed as his principal protocol officer in 2013. She said she only attended to his guests, attended every meeting convention with him and that was it. Speaking with Saturday Beats the former Delta soap model said;

“I am not aware that people said I had an amorous relationship with the governor. That is not true. I worked as his protocol officer and that made us quite close. Apart from handling his guests, I handled every other aspect of his itinerary. I was at every meeting and convention with him, so it is very common and I would not be surprised if they linked us together. If they see a pretty lady everywhere with someone, people would easily jump into conclusion that they are dating.”

The lady who recently turned 30 also says she is not under any pressure to get married now. Igwe said, “I don’t feel any pressure to get married at 30. If my mother was around, she could have been pressuring me but I don’t feel any pressure. I am from a family that believe in doing things at the right time and do not rush into it quickly only to rush out. Take your time to choose your man and make sure that you are doing great for yourself.

“When it comes to my ideal man, I want a God-fearing man who is financially stable. I also want a loving man. I only dated once in the university and when I graduated, I was busy with work. Then when I had the time, I dated again but it did not work out. The truth is that it is not easy for beautiful people to be in stable relationships. I think it has to do with the mind and jealousy.”

14 FEARED DEAD,SIX ABDUCTED AS CULTISTS STRIKE IN RIVERS

About 14 persons have allegedly been killed in Sime-Tai Community, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, following an invasion of the area on Thursday night by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

It was gathered that unknown gunmen invaded the community, shooting sporadically; a development that left many dead while several others had bullet wounds.

A source within the area, who confirmed the incident to Southern City News on telephone stated that the remains of the victims had been deposited in the mortuary.

The development, according to the source, has caused uneasy calm in the area as some people were seen, Friday, leaving for the neighbouring communities.

It will be recalled that on Saturday, a gateman attached to a politician in Sime and his uncle were killed by unknown gunmen.

In a related development, over six persons have been allegedly kidnapped in a fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area of the state.

A source privy to the situation, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the abductors came into Asaramatoru community in two gunboats and seven speedboats.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident in Tai to Punch correspondent, but added that the casualty figure had not been ascertained.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that the incident happened in Tai, but we are yet to confirm the casualty figure. Investigation is ongoing,” Omoni stressed.

But the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for House of Representatives, Oyigbo, Eleme-Tai Federal Constituency in the 2015 elections, Dr. Jacobson Nbina, who is a native of the affected community, described the killings as political.

Nbina insisted that over 20 members of the PDP were killed in the attack while some others were still missing.

He said, “My brothers and sisters, please help to pray for Sime community. The worst has just happened to me again! I earlier informed you of last weekend’s invasion of my home and the brutal killing of my security guard and my uncle with my driver escaping with bullet wounds at my gate.

“As I speak to you, over 20 PDP youths of my community, Sime-Tai, were brutally murdered and several others taken away alive as unknown gunmen invaded my community midnight of yesterday,” Nbina stated.

I CONSTANTLY STRUGGLED AS A COMEDIAN---TEJU BABYFACE

Teju Babyface has admitted stand-up comedy was a struggle for him for so many years. He said, getting on stage was always a struggle and the audience didn’t help matters as well. Here’s his words to Saturday Beats

“It was always a struggle to be a comedian. You may not have seen the struggle but every time I got on stage, it was a constant struggle. I had to prove myself to the audience constantly at every performance. It was a constant struggle and there were times I had been called on stage and the applause at the best of time would be polite, at the worst of times it would be non-existent. If you think about it, I really did not look like a comedian. It was as if the audience did not believe I could make them laugh; so I always had to prove myself. There was a time that it did not matter because I really enjoyed doing it. But after a certain time, your inner man would call out to you and things like discontent would start to set in.”

He told Saturday Beats that his conviction was further fuelled when he realised that he could never be the number one stand-up comedian in the industry. Babyface however emphasised that he would always remain a comedian.

“It occurred to me that I was never going to be the number one stand-up comedian. I would never forget that day. It occurred to me several times in my stand-up comedy career but there was a certain day I had a lucid moment after a particular performance. As I got off the stage, it occurred to me that I was not called to be a career stand-up comedian. It was just a stage through which I had to pass. I am not saying I am not a comedian because I will always be one but I am no longer a stand-up comedian. I like to use the example of Steve Harvey in the US. He did his last stand-up comedy show in Las Vegas in 2012 but he hosts the Steve Harvey show on television and radio, he has a children’s show and he is also an author.  He is a business magnate but he would always be a comedian. You cannot watch him and not laugh and it is the same thing with me. Either it is the Teju Babyface show or you are reading my book or listening to me speak; you will always laugh but I would not stand on stage like I used to do to tell jokes,” the comedian said.
